Svajerløb - Cargo Bike Races

Svajerløb - Danish Cargo Bike Championships

In 1942, a priest named Kristian Skjerring decided to raise awareness of the cargo-bike riders of Copenhagen (or ‘svajere,’) and organised a Svajerløb race in the city to raise money to send these underprivileged young men to a summer retreat. A massive audience success, they continued every year until 1960, then not seen again until they were finally revived in April 2009.

The races are once again an annual event, attracting large crowds and uniting the cargo-bike community of Copenhagen. Working with Firmacyklen.dk, Larry vs. Harry and cycling club Amagerringen, Copenhagenize Design Co. has provided marketing, branding and organisational expertise for this revived tradition. The races are an important date on the Copenhagen calendar and help to celebrate and raise the profile of cargo-bike riding in the city.
