Desire Lines on Islands Brygge - Copenhagen
Copenhagenize Design Company applied its Desire Lines Analysis Tool to an area on Islands Brygge, close to Bryggebroen in Copenhagen, observing bicycle user behaviour and comparing and contrasting it with the officially designated routes. By observing over 1,700 cyclists we were able to gain an enlightening quantative insight into cyclist behaviour. We discovered no less than 14 different routes that bicycle users used to pass through the space, noticing that the space ‘designed’ for the bicycle users by the property owners was not the one primarily used. Based on our findings we proposed several ‘Fixes’ that we recommend should be applied to the area to make it more bike-friendly, and indeed more friendly to the pedestrians that use the space too.
