The Young Urbanists
What would a city designed by children look like? Kids have a pretty amazing ability to view their surroundings with a clarity, simplicity and rationality we tend to lose with age. The Young Urbanist project was undertaken to learn how children would redesign the roundabout just outside their neighborhood school. How would they approach the problem of tense, crowded early morning traffic congestion to create a more pleasant, safe and fun environment for pedestrians and cyclists?
Without many guidelines or rules they took on the challenge and produced some amazing results, many of which could be easily and practically implemented throughout the city, reminding us you don’t always need advanced academic degrees to understand an urban environment and create solutions that put people first. This project was in connection with The Good City exhibition.
