Gearing up for the Copenhagenize Index

Every two years, we publish the Copenhagenize Index, our comprehensive and holistic ranking of the world’s most bicycle-friendly cities. Now in its fifth iteration, we are proud to announce the 2019 edition, which will be released on June 27 at 1:00 p.m. (GMT+1) in Dublin, Ireland during this year’s Velo-city conference, organised by the European Cyclists’ Federation. The Index is supported by our media partner WIRED magazine.

This year’s Index follows months of research from our multinational team, evaluating cities across 14 parameters of bicycle-friendliness including input from local members of City administrations and advocacy groups across the globe. Although we can’t reveal the fruits of our labour just yet, we can say without a doubt that we are beyond inspired by the unique initiatives and progress we have seen in dozens of cities over the past two years.

Competition for the top spots was extremely tight this year, but even beyond the Top 20, we found a huge number of inspirational success stories that deserve recognition in their own right. What’s more, we are excited to reveal that four newcomer cities have made the cut for the first time ever in the Index’s eight-year history!

We welcome the growing global push toward bicycle-friendliness, and hope that the stories we share will inspire citizens and local governments everywhere to keep elevating the importance of the bicycle on the urban agenda.
