For several years now, Copenhagenize Design Co. has organised Master Classes in Copenhagen, gathering diverse participants from all around the world to discover the city’s best practices in bicycle urbanism. The Master Class experience provides urban citizens with a point of reference in our field of expertise. At the same time, we know that not everyone can travel to Copenhagen, and while Copenhagen is impressive, there are many cities around the world that we can learn from, too.

As a result, we’re introducing the Copenhagenize Master Class To Go: the Master Class will travel around the world, creating more opportunities to share our vision as the transition towards sustainable mobility continues to accelerate. For the first edition, Copenhagenize has chosen Bordeaux, France as an ideal venue – an area which is attractive for many reasons, including but not limited to bicycle infrastructure. The Master Class To Go in Bordeaux will be held from October 16-17, 2019.

Bordeaux has taken initiative in promoting sustainable forms of mobility, making one of its historical bridges car-free and dedicating it exclusively to cyclists, pedestrians, and public transportation.

Over two days, attendees will partake in a wide-ranging program including presentations, bike tours, workshops, and plenty of time to discuss and exchange ideas with other participants and local stakeholders. The class will cover a multitude of subjects related to bicycle urbanism, and most importantly, will present the key points for creating optimal conditions to facilitate cycling as sustainable mobility solution.

Under the impetus of the national bicycle plan, several French cities are now including the bicycle under their core mobility policies. It is therefore the right moment to invest in infrastructure and services that will truly enable urban citizens to change their transport patterns. In addition, mobility will be one of the major topics of the coming local elections in French cities. Within this public debate, it will be crucial for advocates, planners, and politicians alike to use the right arguments in order to create the required momentum to support decisions in favour of non-motorised transport. The Master Class will put together an inspiring and effective package to help participants credibly develop cycling mobility in their cities.

Attending the Master Class is a unique opportunity to participate in an inspiring and challenging event, which will introduce you to the key pillars of innovative bicycle urbanism. We will cover topics such as understanding bicycle users’ behaviour, with all recommendations based on concrete cases and proven success. Moreover, the program will always link best practice examples to the local context of the city in which the event takes place.
