Copenhagenize Design Co. was hired by the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition to develop an open-source data tool to help increase bicycle ridership in San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties that would identify bicycle projects important for local and regional connectivity. The tool that emerged is grounded in a methodology that prioritizes bicycle planning projects based on demand, low-stress networks, connectivity to key destinations, and other important factors such as equity. The tool is a powerful way to visualize high need areas, proximity to destinations, harm reduction priorities, and existing bicycle network connectivity in order to develop recommendations that offer safer environments for cyclists of all ages and abilities. This tool is currently being beta tested by volunteers, in the aim to use it as an analysis of needs within a number of local Silicon Valley cities.
