Bicycle Urbanism Technical
Infrastructure & Design

June 18-20, 2025

Our master class returns with more specialized knowledge in 2025!

From macro to micro and everything in between: focus on quality infrastructure, design, observation, and data to transform your city’s cycling network and services during this specialized technical course.

• From keynotes
to the field

Whether it is in the classroom, on the street, or meeting with local experts from the cycling ecosystem, you are immersed in the city and the world of bicycle urbanism. This course goes beyond the essentials to provide you with the infrastructure, design, and technical tools to transform your city.

• Copenhagen: world class cycling city

To celebrate 10 years of master classes, we are launching a new specialized immersive course in one of the few cities advanced enough to offer such high-level learning: Copenhagen. The city’s innovative cycling design and approach to planning will be on full display.

• Learn from international
best practices

Don’t worry, this more advanced course still brings together best practices from all over the world in addition to Copenhagen, during three intensive days of talks, tours, workshops, great food, and excellent company.

Are you ready to go the extra mile, and hone your infrastructure and design skills? Registration is now open for our 2025 Master Class!

Course & objectives

This year is the 10th anniversary of our bicycle urbanism Master Class! To celebrate Copenhagenize is offering a new specialized technical course focused on infrastructure and design and the importance of data and observation. This three-day immersive course will use Copenhagen as its classroom, alternating between case studies, workshops, site visits, bike tours, and expert guests.

This master class is designed to meet the needs of more experienced professionals looking to take their design skills and infrastructure knowledge to the next level. As cycling mobility has advanced across the globe, we’ve encountered more experienced individuals who have mastered the essentials of bicycle urbanism, but need more expert guidance on how to increase quality, coherence, and safety to scale cycling in their cities.

Copenhagen Program

Day 01

Macro level: Introduction to bicycle urbanism and Copenhagen

We begin with an introduction to bicycle urbanism and the City of Copenhagen’s approach. The day will be spent learning about macro level planning and design for developing strong coherent networks with logical hierarchies. We finish the day learning about Copenhagen’s famous bicycle bridges and their impact by riding them, then have a fun and relaxing dinner with class participants and the Copenhagenize team on the harbor.

Day 02

Micro level: Bicycle infrastructure design and observation

The second day begins with observing cyclists and learning the importance of observation and counting for the design and planning process. Then the deep dive into infrastructure begins, covering micro design, intersections, water management and more. We will spend the afternoon in one of Copenhagen’s residential neighborhoods experiencing the design solutions introduced earlier in the morning.  The day ends with a group dinner at Copenhagen’s well-known Reffen Street Food Market.

Day 03

Knowledge to action: apply lessons learned to Copenhagenize your city

On the last day, we visit a bicycle parking and learn about intermodality, data collection and traffic planning. We conclude by applying everything learned over the past three days during an infrastructure design workshop with cases studies from participants’ hometowns.

participant's opinion

“What I appreciated most was meeting people coming from all different perspectives and cities around the world and talking about their challenges. Also learning a lot about the infrastructure of Copenhagen, riding around, seeing it, using it and thinking about what would apply in my own city.”
