Master Classes
Annual Editions

Paris - September 25-27, 2024
Copenhagen - June 12-14, 2024

Our annual master classes return in 2024!

There’s no better way to demonstrate the advantages of quality cycling infrastructure, services, and policies than to be immersed in it. And that's exactly what we strive to do during our annual 3-day intensive master classes.

• From keynotes
to the field

Whether it is in the classroom, on the street, or meeting with local experts from the cycling ecosystem, you are immersed in the city and the world of bicycle urbanism. This course teaches you all the essentials and provides you with the tools and strategies to make your city more bicycle-friendly.

• Copenhagen
and Paris

We will host two editions of our master class again in 2024, our flagship master class in Copenhagen and our frenchified version in Paris. The Copenhagen Master Class is June 12th-14th and taught in English, the Paris Master Class will be September 25th-27th and taught in French.

• Learn from international
best practices

Both versions of our well-loved crash course in bicycle urbanism bring together best practices from Copenhagen and around the world for three days of talks, tours, workshops, great food, and excellent company.

Are you ready to transform your city and foster a more bicycle-friendly environment? Registrations are now open for our 2024 Master Class!

The objectives

The goal is to use the principles of bicycle urbanism to teach participants how to develop ambitious cycling policies that respond to users needs and use quality well-designed cycling infrastructure. Participants will leave with strong arguments to advocate for the development of cycling mobility and be able to demonstrate how bicycles impact more than just mobility, they fundamentally transform cities at their core. The Master Class will prepare you to:

Implement an ambitious cycling policy
Design top-quality infrastructure and services
Focus on user and inclusive approaches
Account for bike economics
Activate cargo bike usage

The Master Class Program

Over the course of a session, participants acquire a more detailed understanding of the complexities of planning for urban cycling through three days of classes.

Day 01

Introduction to bicycle urbanism

We kick off our first day with an introduction to bicycle urbanism and sharing best practices from Copenhagen and around the world. We finish the day learning about cycling policy in the host city from a local expert, then have fun and relaxing dinner with the rest of the class participants and the Copenhagenize team. The Paris edition includes more examples and learnings from cities across France.

Day 02

Bicycle infrastructure design

The second day focuses on designing cycling infrastructure for all types of users and learning the role bikes play in making cities more inclusive and equitable. We will explore the host city and its cycling infrastructure by bike, then end the day with dinner including guests from the local cycling mobility ecosystem.

Day 03

Useful tools

On the last day, we learn important tools to make cities more bikeable and discuss how to use innovative communications techniques to promote cycling. We end the Master Class with a workshop where participants can apply the lessons learned over the past three days to their own city.

participant's opinion

“The master class was enriching and friendly. We were in a small group, which made it easier to talk to the other participants, which was great for sharing feedback. The presentation are also relevant and unique. The format of the master class was well thought out, particularly with its bike tour and guest. Great encounters in the classroom and in the field !”
