Course & objectives
This master class is a general course covering the essentials of bicycle urbanism and all the elements needed to develop ambitious cycling strategies at home. Immersive learning and experiencing the cycling infrastructure and services are central to our way of teaching, so the city will literally become our classroom. When in the classroom, we incorporate real case studies from cities around the world so participants leave with knowledge and strategies they can implement as soon as they return home. Participants will leave with strong arguments to advocate for the development of cycling mobility and be able to demonstrate how bicycles impact more than just mobility, they fundamentally transform cities at their core.
With so much attention on Paris recently, and to celebrate the 10th anniversary of our education program, we will be hosting three editions in Paris in 2025: one in English, one in French, and one in Spanish. Our master classes go far beyond your typical professional training course. Not only are they taught by the talented and experienced Copenhagenize team that knows the ins and outs of Paris, they also feature special guests from the city and the region, as well as other important players in the Paris cycling ecosystem.
Paris Program
Day 01
Bicycle urbanism and Paris’ evolution
The first day kicks off with an introduction to bicycle urbanism and what makes for a strong cycling policy, sharing best practices from Copenhagen, Paris, and around the world. The rest of the day is spent learning about the evolution of cycling policy in Paris and how these lessons can apply to your work, while exploring the city by bike and meeting with local experts. The day ends with a fun and relaxing dinner so you can get to know the rest of the master class participants and members of the Copenhagenize team.
Day 02
Bicycle infrastructure design
The second day focuses on designing cycling infrastructure and services for all types of users and mobility needs. From micro and macro design to intermodality and bike parking, this day will focus on the design process and how to incorporate data and observation for user-oriented results. The day will conclude with a group dinner including guests from the local cycling mobility ecosystem.
Day 03
Useful tools
On the last day, we visit and analyze a bicycle parking at one of Paris’ busiest train stations, learn innovative communications techniques, and how the bike can be a tool for economic growth and greater equity. We end the Master Class with a workshop where participants have the opportunity to apply the lessons learned over the past three days to case studies from their own cities.
participant's opinion
“The master class was enriching and friendly. We were in a small group, which made it easier to talk to the other participants, and great for sharing feedback. The presentations are also relevant and unique. The format of the master class was well thought out, particularly with the bike tour and guest. Great encounters in the classroom and in the field!”
