Project Summary

In the lead-up to the highly anticipated EXPO 2020 in Dubai, Copenhagenize was asked to collaborate with the Expo administrative team to improve the micromobility landscape on the EXPO site.

The cornerstone of this collaboration was the creation of an exhaustive idea catalog, structured into three key domains: logistics, programming, and transportation. It included ambitious projects like bicycle facilities linking the EXPO site to Dubai Marina. Simultaneously, the catalog featured swift and practical implementations such as on-site bicycle services, encompassing bike-sharing programs, guided bike tours, and cargo bike maintenance solutions.

The work extended beyond ideation to encompass a thorough safety analysis and risk assessment of on-site micromobility. This approach ensured not only the conceptualization of micromobility projects but also a keen understanding of the potential challenges and safety considerations associated with their implementation.

As part of the broader EXPO Legacy Plan, Copenhagenize produced corridor design typologies that would endure beyond the immediate EXPO event, outlining a blueprint for safe and efficient connections within the EXPO legacy site. These corridor designs aimed not only to facilitate smooth transportation but also to leave a lasting imprint on the urban landscape, ensuring that the legacy of EXPO 2020 Dubai extended well into the future.
