Project Summary

Copenhagenize worked with the City of Gruissan to develop their cycling strategy with the objective
of structuring bicycle travel through an operational cycling plan. The challenge in such a touristy area was to increase cycling culture and use in a way that responds to the specific needs of diverse users: vacationers (adults, children, seniors) who are not always used to cycling, casual visitors discovering
the area, and residents who would like start using more intermodal modes of transport for their daily needs, etc.

An initial diagnostic phase was carried out to evaluate the quality and quantity of existing cycling infrastructure and services in the city. From this a Bicycle Infrastructure Master Plan was produced
to establish standards moving forward. Close communication with the city allowed us to identify priority actions for the city and surrounding area to put in place between now and 2030. These actions include
the evaluation and support of cycling practices, infrastructure enhancements, user services, signage,
and wayfinding. Scenario planning outlined a long-term vision for the cycling network, ensuring consistent and achievable developments. Improvements were also proposed for existing infrastructure to ensure
the network is coherent across the city with a consistent quality and level of services to meet the needs
of an increasing number of users.
