Project Summary

In 2012, Copenhagenize created a unique tool to analyse the behaviour of bicycle users and collect qualitative and quantitative data. The aim of the tool is two-fold : modifying existing streets to adapt them to bicycle use and communicating publicly with attractive visuals and fighting against preconceived notions on cyclists. Copenhagenize has completed several studies with this tool, in Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Barcelona and in Lisbon.

In Amsterdam, following the analysis of twenty intersections and after having obtained the results from the bicycle counts and observations of thousands of bicycle users, the City applied the concrete recommendations proposed and enlarged the waiting zones at the traffic light for cyclists. The City even created new principles of conception for the intersections, now included in its municipal guidelines.
